International Baccalaureate Handbook 2018-2019

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. High School is one of three schools in DeKalb County that offers the International Baccalaureate Program.  The International Baccalaureate® (IB) offers a continuum of international education. The program encourage both personal and academic achievement, challenging students to excel in their studies and in their personal development. In order to teach IB program, schools must be authorized. Every school authorized to offer IB program is known as an IB World School. At Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. High School we offer the Diploma Programme.

Research suggests many benefits to choosing the DP, such high college acceptance and retention rate, greater improved college readiness. The program aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge – students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically. Our DP program starts in the Junior year in high school. To adequately prepare students for the rigor of the DP Programme we have a Pre-IB cohort. This cohort of students are on anaccelerated course pathway.  Students take numerous Advance Placement courses, and complete their math and foreign language requirements for graduation prior to their Junior year.
