the PAC do?
Principal Advisory Councils bring parents, school employees, students and community members together to create a better understanding of and mutual respect for each other’s perspectives and share ideas for increasing student achievement and performance.
The MLK Principal Advisory Council (PAC) includes parent & teacher representatives who are elected to two-year terms in September
(open positions are staggered such that half of the PAC is newly elected each year). The Principal and the PTA Co-Chairs are ex-officio members of the PAC. Meetings are open to all staff, teachers, and parents.
Act as a link between the school and the community
Encourage the engagement of parents and other stakeholders within the school community
Work to increase student achievement through transparent operations and shared best practices
Review the Continuous School Improvement Plan and monitor progress toward goals
Participate in the selection of the school principal

"Principal Advisory Councils
.............are coalitions of parents, guardians, and teachers that serve their school communities at 112 DCSD schools. Councils act as a link between the school and the community, encouraging engagement with stakeholders, increasing transparency, monitoring progress, and participating in the selection of a school’s principal." They are elected each fall by parents in an election held by DeKalb County Schools.
The purpose of the Principal Advisory Council is to bring parents, school employees, students and community members together to create a better understanding of and mutual respect for each other’s perspectives and share ideas for increasing student achievement and performance.
The members of the Principal Advisory Council are accountable to the constituents they serve and shall:
Maintain a school-wide perspective on issues;
Act as a link between the school and the community;
Encourage the engagement of parents and other stakeholders within the school community; and
Work to increase student achievement and performance through transparent operations and shared best practices.
The Principal Advisory Council operates under the control and management of the DeKalb County School District and will follow Board of Education policies and procedures. The Principal Advisory Council provides advice and recommendations to the school principal, the local board of education and local school superintendent on matters related to school climate/culture, student achievement, and community partnerships.
